Constantin-Adi Gavrila


Director of ADR Center’s international activities, Constantin-Adi Gavrilă received his Ph.D. from University of Craiova with emphasis on ”Mediation and Access to Justice”, and is a well-known Romanian mediator with over 15 years of experience in the field of mediation. Mr. Gavrilă is co-founder and General Manager of the Craiova Mediation Center Association, and he serves as Co-Chair of the Independent Standards Commission convened by the International Mediation Institute (IMI).

He has been mediated hundreds of civil and commercial cases, both domestic and international, including multi-party, company – community cases, specific to the development context, for which he is working with the Office of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO), the independent recourse mechanism for IFC and MIGA, the private sector lending arms of the World Bank Group. Among other awards, Mr. Gavrilă was honoured with the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) International Development Committee’s 2009 Outstanding Leadership Award for outstanding contributions to international conflict resolution.

Giuseppe De Palo


Starting in August 2015, Professor De Palo has been appointed as new Ombudsman for the United Nations Funds and Programmes. He is based in New York City. During his term as Ombudsman, Professor De Palo will not be available to serve as mediator, nor in any other capacity, for ADR Center.

Leonardo D’Urso


Leonardo D’Urso is the CEO and co-founder of ADR Center. Since 1998, he has resolved more than 800 national and international complex civil and commercial mediations. With almost 20 years of full-time work in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), he is responsible for the managing of ADR Center’s activities, the opening of nearly 30 Resolution Centers in Italy and the creation of ODR Center, an innovative cloud platform developed to manage the mediation process.

Furthermore, he has been a senior expert in different international projects on ADR in Europe, Africa, Asia and Central America. In particular, he has been one of the leading experts in the two-year successful project for the creation of the first mediation center for commercial dispute in Kabul, Afghanistan, and has recently been nominated Senior ADR Expert in a project that aims to strengthen access to justice in the Republic of Serbia. In Serbia, he is also responsible for the design and delivery of the ToT activities for the Judicial Academy and the Chamber of Commerce’s trainers in the context of a EBRD-financed Commercial Mediation Project.

Elena Ciancio


Ms. Ciancio, the senior staff member of ADR Center, is responsible for the management and coordination of international technical assistance projects and for the planning, organization, and implementation of numerous training courses, summer schools, seminars, and workshops on international negotiation and ADR.

James Coben


Professor Coben is Professor of Law at Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Professor Coben directs the Dispute Resolution Institute (DRI) at Hamline, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top five U.S. programmes in its field. He teaches civil procedure, dispute resolution practice, mediation, and negotiation.
